Reincarnated as a Housekeeper in a 19+ Gangster Romance Novel - Chapter 7

TLed by Mimo (Bedtime BL)

"Wow, this is no joke!"

If Jeong Hwanseo was a psycho, Jeong Hwangyu was a mad dog. No doubt about it.

For a moment, I'd forgotten that Jeong Hwangyu was a mad dog, distracted by the way he wags his tail in front of me.

His ferocity was astonishing. Despite being outnumbered, he bared his teeth and charged like a maniac, using every part of his body as a weapon, as if determined to take down as many opponents as possible.

Arms, legs, fists, feet, head, even his molars...

Despite their numerical advantage, the gangsters were gradually being pushed back. This was a battle of sheer spirit.

In a fight, the spirit is everything. With enough spirit, even the most unfavorable odds can be overcome. And right now, Jeong Hwangyu was crushing these gangsters with his indomitable spirit.

"What are you doing?! It's just one kid!"

"He's not a kid, he's a fucking mutt! Aaaah!"

"Fuck it, all of you attack at once!"

But no matter how fiercely Jeong Hwangyu fought, there were limits to his endurance.

He might have held his own in the beginning, but as time wore on, he grew exhausted, and his spirit began to wane. Sure enough, he gradually started taking hits and found himself cornered.

I scanned my surroundings.

...Those might come in handy.

I noticed sturdy rocks scattered across the ground.

I gathered about five fist-sized rocks. Everyone was so focused on the fight that they didn't even notice I was there.

I hefted the stones in my hand. It had been ages since I'd done this.

I worried whether my body would cooperate, but after confirming that my strength remained undiminished—even enhanced—despite my reduced size, I closed the distance with confidence. At the perfect range, I hurled those rocks at the heads of the gangsters beating Jeong Hwangyu.

"Ugh!"

"Argh!"

"What the—?! Ugh!"

"Yes! Bullseye!"

I aimed a rock at each gangster's head, and those who were struck collapsed instantly, unconscious. The frothing at their mouths confirmed the effectiveness of my attack.

Jeong Hwangyu frantically scanned the direction those rocks came from. When he spotted me, his eyes widened as if he'd seen something he shouldn't have, and he pointed a trembling finger in my direction.

"Y-you...!"

I waved goodbye to Jeong Hwangyu.

He had taken down five men, and I had just taken down five with rocks. Now it was time to deal with the remaining five.

I picked up a wooden plank lying nearby.

It's been a while since I've held one of these.

I usually had my underlings handle these things. It's been quite some time since I've gotten my hands dirty myself.

"What the hell is that bastard doing?!"

"That pretty boy threw a rock! Hey, grab him!"

Two gangsters charged at me. I stared blankly as they approached. When they got close, one of them threw a punch at my face.

Too slow.

I dodged the punch and swung the wooden plank into the gangster's stomach. With a sickening thud, his body flew backward.

Wow, I've really gotten stronger.

I'd sensed it during the Jeong Hwanseo incident, but using my full strength now was no joke.

"W-what the hell?!"

The panicked gangsters exchanged fearful glances between their flying comrade and me.

"...It's almost time for me to go make dinner, so can you guys hurry up and attack?"

As I casually twirled the wooden plank in my hand, the remaining gangsters' faces turned deathly pale.

"If you won't come at me, I'll come to you?"

With that, I charged at the gangsters. They couldn't even dodge as they fell one by one under the blows of my wooden plank. The satisfying crack of each strike made the corners of my mouth twitch upward involuntarily.

This is fun. So much fun. I'd forgotten how much fun this was. I was about to go crazy with excitement.

I deliberately held back, not wanting to end it in one blow. Watching the blood-soaked gangsters desperately try to escape, the thrill I'd long forgotten surged back.

"M-monster..."

The last gangster that was still conscious trembled on the floor, shouting at me.

Monster... That's what they used to call me back when I was twenty, in my youth. My long-forgotten nickname finally resurfaced in my memory.

I raised the wooden plank. It wasn't over yet.

More... more... more! More!

"Park Gyumin!"

"Ah, you scared me!"

Someone shouted my name at the top of their lungs while simultaneously snatching the wooden plank from my hand and hurling it far away. The adrenaline that had been coursing through me instantly cooled, as if doused with ice water.

"...Ah... why?"

Jeong Hwangyu stood before me, having appeared without me noticing.

When did he get here?

I'd gotten too caught up in the thrill of my first real fight in ages. Come to think of it, the reason I'd stopped moving after becoming boss wasn't my fault—it was my subordinates'. They begged me to stay out of fights, warning that the sight of blood would change my personality.

Jeong Hwangyu's usually relaxed face was unusually stiff.

Did I go too far?

As I worried about getting kicked out of my housekeeper job, Jeong Hwangyu's tightly pressed lips finally parted.

"...Hungry..."

"Hungry?"

What about it?

Was he going to stab me in the stomach? Or punch me?

"...Let's stop and get something to eat. Hic."

Jeong Hwangyu seemed surprised by his own words, as he immediately started hiccuping as soon as he finished speaking.

What did he just say? That he's hungry?

I stared blankly at Jeong Hwangyu, who was hiccuping uncontrollably after his unexpected statement. Unable to contain myself, I finally let out a soft chuckle.

What's this? Jeong Hwan-gyu has a cute side to him?

Jeong Hwangyu couldn't stop hiccuping for a long time.

"T-this... it's just because I choked... It's definitely not because I'm scared of you... Hic, hic."

How cute. Thankfully, he didn't seem to have any intention of kicking me out.

Even as he struggled to stop hiccuping, Jeong Hwangyu was busy trying to convince me he wasn't afraid of me.

"Alright, alright. Let's go. We'll get you treated and then eat. Just as you said, I am hungry."

I glanced at Jeong Hwangyu, covered in wounds, and started walking. He followed hesitantly behind me, his persistent hiccuping echoing as we headed home.

----------------

"Ouch! Gently, gently! Apply the medicine gently!"

"I am being gentle. Stop being such a baby."

"Ease up! Do you even realize how ridiculously strong you are?"

"Aish, stop whining. You won't die! You won't die!"

"Aaaah!"

The housekeeper had changed. Jeong Hwanyeong, who had been secretly watching through the crack in the door, couldn't hide his shock as he witnessed Jeong Hwangyu and the housekeeper playfully bickering. He quietly closed the door and slipped back under the covers.

He changed. He really changed.

The housekeeper used to be timid and always looked intimidated, especially around his older brothers. When did he become so close to Hyung?

Jeong Hwanyeong fidgeted under the blanket, feeling a sudden, irrational sense of isolation.

I thought I was the only fellow loner in this family... How could he change so suddenly?

Was he captured by aliens and had his brain modified?

Otherwise, it was impossible for someone to change so drastically overnight.

He doesn't even pay attention to me anymore.

The biggest change was his lack of interest in Jeong Hwanyeong. Before, even if he didn't eat, his hyung would always prepare breakfast and dinner for him. But now, even that had disappeared. With the only person who used to care about him now indifferent, Jeong Hwanyeong felt even more isolated.

He truly felt alone in this house now. And to top it off, his hyung had become so close with the others...

The others don't even care about someone like me...

No matter how much he threw tantrums and acted out, no one paid him any attention. Even when he clammed up and refused to speak, no one gave him a second glance. His hunger strikes and refusal to leave his room were met with complete indifference. He was now even envious of the housekeeper who spent time with his third brother.

"No, I'm not jealous," Jeong Hwanyeong muttered, shaking his head. The thought had surfaced unbidden, but it stung his pride.

It's just because I'm young now, he thought. Once I grow up, I'll ignore my brothers and live my own life, eating well and thriving on my own. In fairy tales, Cinderella and Snow White both endured miserable childhoods. But they eventually found happiness and lived happily ever after.

He must be like that too. He probably was...

Grumble.

His stomach growled. The snack he'd eaten at kindergarten hadn't been enough to satisfy his hunger.

Yet his pride wouldn't let him ask the housekeeper for food.

He was always hungriest at this time of day. Before, he could at least feast his eyes on the meals the housekeeper prepared, but now even that was denied to him.

Even if I starve like this, none of my brothers would care... No one cares about someone like me...

Tears welled up in Jeong Hwanyeong's eyes. He suddenly remembered how his hyung had taken care of him when he was younger, unlike now. The pumpkin porridge he used to make for him was so delicious.

Pumpkin porridge.

I want some.

Looking out at the bustling world outside only intensified his loneliness and hunger.

Jeong Hwanyeong collapsed weakly onto his bed. It was impossible for pumpkin porridge to magically appear out of thin air...

Knock, knock, knock.

A knock echoed through the room. Jeong Hwanyeong pulled the blanket over his head and held his breath. Moments later, the door opened, and the housekeeper entered.

"I made some pumpkin porridge. Please try it, Young Master."

...Pumpkin porridge?

As the door closed, Jeong Hwanyeong crawled out from under the blanket and rushed to the tray on the table.

This can't be real!

Inside the bowl was the very pumpkin porridge he had been craving and longing for, filled to the brim. It was as if someone had read his mind.
